Description
Nos. 43 and 44 on The Close are houses dating from the late 17th century, with extensions and alterations from the 18th and 19th centuries. They are constructed of red brick featuring burnt headers and have a pantile roof. The buildings are positioned against a precinct wall and rise to three storeys with four bays, plus a two-bay extension on the right and a two-storey, two-bay extension on the left. No. 43 includes a 19th-century porch with trellis work. Throughout the houses, there are sash windows with segmental arches, and the left extension has sash windows with glazing bars and rubbed brick flat arches. The design features three Dutch gables and a crenellated parapet on the left, which includes iron tie bars inscribed with 'JHK' for James and Katherine Hobart, dated 1670.
