Description
Part of the former Master's House at The Great Hospital, this building dates from the 17th century and possibly has an earlier core. It is now used as offices. The structure is made of flint rubble with brick dressings on the ground floor and roughcast above, topped with a plain tile roof and featuring two brick end chimneys. The building has a two-span range that connects the cross-wing to Birkbeck Hall. The entrance hall includes a glazed door on the left, flanked by sidelights, and a casement window to the right, all with brick dressings. The first floor features a jetty and a sash window with glazing bars set in a flush fronted wooden frame. The stepped gable on the right has kneelers. Inside, there are two niches in the ground-floor passage and a two-centred arch leading to Birkbeck Hall, located on the site of the former brewhouse.
