Description
The Coachmaker's Arms Public House is a building that dates from the 17th century and late 18th century. It has been rendered and features stucco quoins and window surrounds, topped with a black pantile roof. The structure stands three storeys tall and consists of four bays. The entrance is off-centre, with a plain surround and small decorated consoles that support a flat hood. There is one sash window on each side of the door, each with three lights per sash. The ground floor windows have raised and moulded, eared and haunched surrounds with keystones. The first-floor sash windows have identical surrounds to those on the ground floor, while the second-floor sash windows are framed with simple raised and moulded surrounds. A projecting, moulded box cornice adds to the building's character. The roof is hipped, and inside, there are 17th-century ceiling beams with knicked chamfer-stops. A large frieze on the wall to the right displays St. Stephen's Gate, created by Moray-Smith in 1937.
