Description
No. 30 on London Street is a bank building constructed between 1906 and 1908 by G.J. Skipper. It is made of Portland stone and features a lead sheet roof. The building stands three storeys high and has four bays. The ground floor is rusticated, with a door located in the right-hand bay, flanked by marble Doric columns that support an architrave and a broken pediment within a round-headed recess. The ground floor windows are set in semi-circular hollow-chamfered arches with keystones. Above, the first floor has sash windows with pedimented surrounds and a Vitruvian scroll stringcourse, while the second floor features oval windows. The first and second floor windows are separated by attached Corinthian columns. Notably, there is a three-tier bowed window above the entry, supported by putti, and the second floor showcases an extravagant use of swag decoration. Additionally, the original banking hall has a fine plaster-work ceiling on the ground floor.
