Description
No. 21 Lower Goat Lane is a former public house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the early 17th century and features an extension along Lower Goat Lane. The building has a rendered ground floor with a timber-frame structure above and a pantile roof. It is situated on a corner site and stands three stories tall, with jettied first and second floors on the north and west elevations. The building has a single bay and includes a two-storey extension that jetties at the first floor, which has two first-floor windows. There is a door and a 20th-century corner shopfront with glazing bars. A 20th-century three-light casement window is located at the first floor, with an opening light to the right. At the second floor, there is a 17th-century mullion and transom window. The building features corner-posts and a gable end facing Lower Goat Lane. Notably, the ground floor has an unusual ceiling-beam arrangement instead of the expected dragon-beam.
