Description
No. 57 on London Street is an office building constructed in 1900 by E. Boardman for the Eastern Daily Press Newspapers. It is built from ashlar with a granite plinth and features a slate roof. The building has three storeys and an attic, with five windows on the first floor. The ground floor has a round-headed arcade with five bays, featuring panelled double-leaf doors in the centre, both under fanlights adorned with elaborate wrought iron grilles. There is a passage arch to the right. The building has a moulded cornice and three square-fronted bays on the first and second floors, with mullioned and transomed windows flanked by pilasters. A moulded eaves cornice runs along the top, and there are two 2-light dormers with hipped roofs and spike finials. The stone end chimneys and gable parapets rest on kneelers. The left side displays a date panel from 1844, while the right side shows the date 1900, with an additional date of 1960 added to the original blind central panel during restoration.
