Description
Nos 2 and 4 are a farmhouse that was originally designed as a lobby entrance type. It was refaced and altered around 1800. The walls are made of brick and roughcast, and the roof is covered with black pantiles. The building has two storeys and attics. The entrance front, facing south, features five bays on the ground floor and four bays on the first floor. The ground and first floors have 19th-century plate glass windows, and there is a door from around 1800 with panelled reveals. A brick cornice runs along the top, and there are three gabled dormers with iron casements and glazing bars. The end gables are coped and parapetted, and there are two gable end stacks and one off-centre stack made of gault brick.
To the east, there is a two-storey, four-bay wing. The north facade has four bays, is roughcast, and features gault pilasters. It has three-light 19th-century casements. To the west, there is a carriage entrance with gault brick piers and flint walls that curve south, topped with brick coping. The wall continues further west to form a similar entrance to the farmyard. Certain details indicate that this was once a farmhouse of the Holkham Estate. It was formerly known as Church Farm, while the current Church Farm is the former Rectory.
