Description
The group value of this listing relates to a complex of agricultural buildings dating to the mid-19th century, located to the south-west and west of Stonegate Farmhouse (No 12). The stables and cart sheds to the south-west are constructed of flint with brick dressings and have pantile roofs with coped gable ends and brick dentil eaves. They are a single storey in height, featuring segmental-headed openings with multi-pane metal frame windows (with centre panes on a horizontal pivot), simple plank doors, and a round-headed passageway through one range nearest the farmhouse. Cart sheds adjoin the stables, enclosing a yard to the south-west of the house.
A barn west of the farmhouse is also of flint construction, with red brick quoins and brick dentil eaves, topped with a pantile roof and coped gable end. It has a large central cart entrance and ventilation slits. Initials HLW are incorporated into the barn, created from the bottoms of old wine bottles. C19 cart sheds are attached to the north side of the barn.
A coach-house, also from the 19th century, stands west of the house on the opposite side of the farmyard, with its rear wall facing Egmere Road. It is built of flint and brick with a pantile roof, one end of which is hipped. A carriage entrance is located at one end. A granary, originally completing the north side of the farmyard, was destroyed by fire and has been rebuilt in modern brick and is not included in this listing.
