Description
Guild House, located at No. 1 Guild Street in Little Walsingham, is probably from the late 17th century. The building features a combination of red brick and flint with a plastered east front and north end. It has a steeply pitched black-glazed pantile roof with coped gable ends and stands two storeys tall.
On the first floor, there are three 17th or 18th century two-light wood mullion and transom casements with leaded panes. The ground floor has two late 19th century three-light sash windows without glazing bars. A central early 19th century doorcase is adorned with a moulded architrave and cornice.
The rear of the building, facing Bridewell Street, has a ground floor made of flint with brick-blocked openings and a blocked ten-light moulded wood mullion window. The first floor features brick with blocked openings and a moulded brick drip course at approximately floor level. Below this, there is a row of terracotta tiles, likely from the 16th or 17th century, depicting reliefs of Tudor Roses and lions rampant, with smaller terracottas featuring grotesque heads and a phoenix, possibly imported from another building.
Inside, the ground floor room showcases 17th century moulded ceiling beams. There is also an 18th century wing to the southeast, which is gabled and has a late 19th century sash window on the first floor and a two-light casement with leaded panes on the ground floor. The 18th century south wing is constructed of red brick, has a steep pantile roof with brick coping at the gable ends, and features brick dentil eaves, standing two storeys tall with one window.
