Description
The Game Larder, located immediately east of the Orangery at Holkham Hall, was built in 1803 by Samuel Wyatt. This structure is octagonal in shape and constructed from gault brick with a slate roof. It features stone window surrounds with shouldered architraves and keystones, as well as stone aprons with raised panels beneath the openings. The building has plain string courses and moulded stone eaves. There is a basement with a door on the southeast face, which has a keyed and moulded door surround. A two-storey link connects the Game Larder to the Orangery, featuring a central doorway with a semi-circular pediment supported by pilasters, along with two sash windows that have shouldered surrounds.
Inside, the Game Larder boasts a fine cast iron octagonal game rack, and the interior walls, which are also circular in plan, are lined with alabaster.
