Description

The Garden Temple, located to the southeast of Holkham Hall, is a cruciform structure built around 1850. It serves as a seating area on the terrace and is constructed from stone with a leaded roof. Each elevation features a single bay with a Roman Doric order on bases, framing an arched opening topped with an entablature and pediment. The entablature includes a frieze with triglyphs, and there are guttae on the cornice and the reveals of the pediment. The arch is detailed with an impost, a keystone, and wreaths in the spandrels. This temple shares stylistic elements with a more simply detailed orangery nearby.
