Description
Cockthorpe Hall is a house dating from the 16th century and later. It is constructed of flint with brick dressings and has a red pantile roof. The building is designed in a T plan and has two storeys. Although much altered, there is evidence of 16th or 17th-century features in each of its wings. The main entrance wing has three bays and includes a late 19th-century canted two-storey bow with windows on both the ground and first floors. The windows are 19th-century casements with glazing bars, set under brick gothic drip moulds, and there are blocked surrounds. The entrance features a gabled porch.
The left return facade shows signs of earlier brick mullioned windows. Set back behind the main structure and visible on the left is a wing with random fenestration. It has a simplified six-panelled door and a simple fanlight, along with evidence of brick mullioned windows that have been built into the wall.
At the northern rear wing, which is at right angles to the main structure, there is a gable with an external stack that is bracketed out at the first floor. This stack is octagonal with moulded details, likely dating from the 16th or early 17th century. The gable has filled-in windows, brick quoins, and a brick parapet. The return facade also features filled-in mullioned windows. On the axis with this gable, in the valley to the south, there is a moulded brick stack from the 17th century.
