Description
The garden walls and terraces at Stiffkey Old Hall date from the late 16th century and are constructed of flint and brick. They are aligned with the hall range of Stiffkey Old Hall. To the north, the walls form a boundary with the churchyard. There are three sides of a ruined gazebo to the east. One wall serves as a retaining terrace wall, while a third parallel wall in the garden has a similar function. The layout of the walls and terraces, along with their alignment with the hall, indicates that they were designed as part of a formal garden by Sir Nathaniel Bacon, who began building the hall in 1576. These structures are included for their group value.
