Description

Keeper's Cottage, with an adjacent outbuilding, dates from the 18th century, with extensions added around the mid-19th century and in the 20th century. The cottage is built of English bond red brick, with a plinth. It has a red clay pantile roof with gabled ends, and exposed shaped rafter ends at the eaves. A brick axial stack rises from the centre, featuring octagonal shafts with moulded caps and bases.

The cottage originally comprised two rooms, each with a fireplace in the central axial stack, an entrance lobby at the front, and an integral outbuilding to the west. In the 19th century, a single-storey outhouse wing was constructed behind the main outbuilding, and a small outshut was added to the rear of the cottage, later extended in the 20th century. Further outshuts were added on either side of the original outshut in the 20th century. A 19th-century single-storey wing was also built on the right side behind the main outbuilding, featuring a gable end stack.

The south front of the cottage has two windows with 19th-century two-light casements on the ground floor. A blocked window sits to the left of the centre. A 20th-century central porch provides access to a flush panel door. A rebuilt section of Flemish bond brickwork is visible to the right of the porch. A gabled dormer is situated to the left of centre, containing a 19th-century casement. The outbuilding to the left has two small square windows on its front, a blocked doorway on its west gable end, and a 19th-century casement on its east end, with a 20th-century casement above in an earlier pointed arch opening.

Inside, the left and right-hand rooms have chamfered cross-beams with run-out stops, and 20th-century brick fireplaces. The first floor, roof, and outbuilding were not inspected.
