Description
Dairy Cottages are a pair of cottages dating from the late 18th century, likely extended in the 19th century. They are constructed of Flemish bond red brick and feature a pantile roof with gable ends. The left (west) end has coping and a brick stack with two diagonally set brick shafts.
These attached cottages have a one-room plan and an outshut at the rear, which is probably a 19th-century addition. They are located to the west of No. 4.
The cottages are two storeys high with a symmetrical two-window south front. The 19th-century two-light casements, mostly with glazing bars, are set in segmented brick arch openings with small keystones on the ground floor. There are two doorways at the centre, each with segmental brick arches; the left doorway has a glazed door, while the right has a vertically panelled door. The roof at the rear extends over the two-storey outshut, which features a tall central stack and three-light casements, along with another small outshut at the centre.
The interior was not inspected, but the left-hand cottage (No. 2) was noted to have a chamfered cross-beam. It is worth mentioning that these cottages do not appear on the 1732 estate map.
