Description

Estate Yard Cottage and Woodyard Cottage are a pair of estate cottages dating from around the mid-19th century, likely a remodelling and enlargement of an earlier range from the 18th century. They are constructed of red brick, featuring Flemish bond on the fronts and English bond on the gable ends and rear wall of Woodyard Cottage. The roofs are covered with red clay pantiles and have coped gable ends. Brick axial and gable end stacks are topped with ornate moulded brick shafts.

The cottages are attached and have a two-room plan. Estate Yard Cottage, on the left, has a central entrance and gable end stacks, while Woodyard Cottage, on the right, features a central axial stack and an entrance on the left side. Both cottages have 19th-century rear outshuts.

The buildings are two storeys high with an asymmetrical three-by-three window arrangement on the south front, which shows a joint in the brickwork at the center. The ground floor has large 19th-century three-light casements, while the first floor has smaller two-light casements, all adorned with rendered hoodmoulds. The central doorway of the left cottage has a panelled and glazed door, topped by a plain tile hipped open porch supported by wooden posts, with a single light window above and a small gable featuring shaped bargeboards, a finial, and a pendant. The right cottage has a similar gable above a two-storey rendered porch, which features round arches with pendants on the front and sides, along with a glazed and panelled door. At the rear, the main roof of the west cottage extends down as a catslide over the outshuts, which have lower extensions at the left and right angles.

The interiors have not been inspected.
