Description

No 43 High Street is a house dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of brick and has pantiled roofs. The facade features three storeys and five bays. A central panelled door is set within a Doric surround and is topped by a flat portico porch supported by renewed Ionic columns, which retain their original capitals. The windows are segmental-headed sash windows with glazing bars, positioned beneath gauged arches. The central three first-floor windows are enhanced with projecting keystones. Flat brick string courses mark the divisions between the storeys. The gabled roof has flat truncated internal end stacks. The string courses extend into the east and west returns, which each have two blind windows on every floor.

At the rear, there is an early 19th-century one-storey outshut that connects to both the rear elevation and a two-storey cross wing. The cross wing has five bays, featuring a central panelled door with an overlight and a gabled hood. To the right, there are two 18th-century sashes with glazing bars and gauged segmental arches on each floor. On the left, the sashes are 19th-century replacements, including a canted bay on the ground floor. The cross wing also has a gabled roof with internal end stacks along the ridge.
