Description
The Village Cross in Northwold is a Grade II* listed structure, likely dating from the late 14th century. It is made of ashlar stone, with a partly rendered 19th-century brick pedestal that supports a flat 14th-century plinth featuring a roll-moulded overhanging lip. The socket stone is square in section, chamfered to an octagonal shape at the top, and has lugs at the cardinal points, though their current form is unclear. The shaft is intact, tapering and square in section, with sunk rod-moulded edges. At the top, a moulded octagonal cap supports a 20th-century Greek cross. This cross is also a Scheduled Ancient Monument, designated as County No. 55.
