Description
The gates and gatepiers to Hunstanton Park, located on Church Road in Old Hunstanton, date from the mid to late 19th century and may be part of the improvements made to Hunstanton Hall in 1873. They serve as the main entrance to Hunstanton Park and mark the end of Church Street. Constructed from random coursed carstone with stone dressings, these gates exhibit a High Victorian Gothic style with a strong military appearance. The piers feature stone quoins, battering at the parapet level, and stone coping, along with single arrow slits. The eastern pier includes a stone-dressed Gothic arch with a pedestrian entrance that has a solid boarded door. There is also a pair of boarded carriage gates. The structure continues to the south with two buttresses that have battered heads and a rear arch over the pedestrian gate. These gates and gatepiers are included for their group value.
