Description
Stradsett Hall is a country house with origins dating back to the Elizabethan era, featuring an E plan. It has undergone significant alterations, likely in the late 17th century, and was extensively modified in 1819. The south front displays characteristics of the 17th century, combined with Georgian details on an older layout. The building is constructed of brick and has roofs made of plain tiles and slate. It stands two storeys high with a dormer attic, comprising 11 bays. There are two projecting bays at each end, topped with hipped roofs. The central porch is two storeys tall, featuring a square opening flanked by Ionic pilaster strips and an architrave. A string course runs along the first floor, and the windows are early 19th-century sash types with glazing bars throughout. The eaves cornice is moulded timber. The main range has a gabled roof with three dormers; the central dormer is pedimented, while the others have segmental pediments. Each hipped cross wing also has one pedimented dormer. Asymmetrically placed stacks of various dates rise above the roof line. There is a two-storey early 19th-century extension on the east front. The north front features two and a half storeys beneath a parapet that conceals four hipped roofs, with two projecting bays at each end under hipped roofs as well. This facade consists of eight irregular bays, with sash windows similar to those on the south front, some having round glazed heads. A square central portico porch is supported by Tuscan columns and pilasters.
