Description

Burnham House is an 18th-century house with a facade dating from around 1800. It is located in Market Place, Burnham Market. The house is constructed of gault brick with a black glazed pantile roof. It is two storeys high with attics, and comprises three bays. The ground floor has four sash windows with glazing bars of three panes, while the first floor has three sash windows with glazing bars of four panes, all set within flat brick arches. A wooden porch features two Greek Doric columns in antis, pilasters, an entablature, and a flat roof. The doorcase has a moulded architrave, leading to a six-panel raised and fielded door. The door has paterae in the two central panels and a rectangular fanlight with glazing bars. The building has a brick plinth, a first-floor platband, and a coped eaves parapet. Two attic dormers have sashes with glazing bars, moulded architraves, and pedimented roofs. There are two end stacks. A two-storey, 18th-century service wing extends to the rear, at a right angle to the main house, with a single-storey continuation to the south. This southern section has a shaped gable with 20th-century concrete coping.
