Description
High House is a pair of houses dating from the early 19th century. They are constructed of colourwashed brick with red pantiled roofs. The house on the west, No. 2, features a single ground floor and two first floor sash windows with glazing bars, all set under flat rubbed brick arches. It has a Greek Doric wooden doorcase that is raised on two stone steps, flanked by baseless fluted Doric half columns. The entablature includes triglyphs and guttae, topped with a simple triangular pediment. The door has panelled reveals, a four-panel raised and fielded design, and a rectangular fanlight with detached lead glazing bars arranged in a cross shape. There is also a cast iron wicket gate.
No. 1 High House, located to the east and included primarily for its group value, has three ground floor and two first floor sash windows with glazing bars. It features a coped west parapet and a hipped east gable, with a central axial stack.
