Description
Holly Lodge is a house that consists of two or more sections, with the eastern part dating from the 17th century and the western part from the 18th century. The building underwent reroofing in the late 19th century. The exterior, which was once rendered, is now exposed, featuring coursed clunch with brick dressings and some carstone at the base and as heightening courses in the 17th-century section, while the 18th-century section is made of brick. The roofs are slated.
The house has a double pile plan and stands two storeys tall with attics. The south front, facing east, has a slightly off-centre porch with a barge board gable dating from around 1880. There is a round-headed late 18th-century sash window with glazing bars above the porch, and on the ground floor, there is a sash window with glazing bars, alongside a first-floor replacement aluminium-framed window from the 20th century, which features a balustraded balcony. The attic has a dormer sash window with glazing bars.
To the west, there are three ground floor windows set in a slightly raised brick frame, and three first floor windows, all of which are sashes with glazing bars. There is a gabled dormer with a sash window and applied rendering that mimics half-timbering. The central dormer has two lights and a barge board gable. Both east gables are rendered and feature barge boarded gables with half-timbering. The front pile includes a two-storey canted bay with three sashes that have glazing bars. The chimneys, dating from around 1880, consist of two ridge double shaft octagonal stacks on the front pile, along with four stacks and two double end stacks at the rear, all made of brick and topped with star pattern coping.
