Description
Duncan Hall School is a house that has been converted into a school. It was originally built in the mid-18th century and was enlarged and rebuilt in 1866, with further additions made in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of brick and has slate roofs.
The original 18th-century block, which is five bays wide, is located on the north-west side and has two storeys. It features rusticated brick quoins. The north front includes a 19th-century bow window on the ground floor and two 19th-century sash windows, all set under gauged skewback arches. The first floor has five 18th-century sash windows with glazing bars, also under gauged skewback arches. A 19th-century parapet conceals the gabled roof, which has a central panelled ridge stack.
On the single bay west return, there is one first floor 18th-century sash window and a 19th-century bow window on the ground floor. The south and east sides of the building are part of the 1866 addition, which is two storeys high. There is a full-height porch to the left of the centre, featuring a half-glazed door within a Doric doorcase. The porch is canted and has one sash window on each facet for both floors. To the right of the porch, there are three window bays and a continuous parapet.
