Description
The building is a stable, now used as a garden store, located about 35 meters north of the Old Rectory in Blickling. It dates from the 18th century and is constructed of red and grey brick in Flemish bond. The roof features red clay pantiles on the east slope and black glazed pantiles on the west. The stable is a single-storey structure with a low brick plinth and a steeply-pitched gabled roof. The gable ends have slender eaves corbels and a plain projecting brick coping band beneath interlocking coping bricks, with brick finials at the apex.
The east elevation has a central ledged and boarded door, with a centrally-pivoting 8-pane window above it, and a blocked segmental-headed window to the south of the door. The west elevation features two small rectangular paned windows that are asymmetrically placed. The north gable includes a slatted hatch with a segmental head, which was used for a former loft, and there is a blocked opening with a straight head in a similar position on the south gable end.
Inside, the stable contains one loose-box, two stalls, and tack rooms. It has a chamfered central beam with run-out stops, and a vertical wall ladder provides access to the loft. The roof is a three-bay structure with two tiers of butt purlins aligned to the west and staggered to the east, along with straight windbraces, collars, and a ridge pole.
