Description

The Old Shop is a former shop dating to the late 17th century, with significant alterations in the 19th century. It is constructed of red brick, with the ground floor rendered, and has a red pantiled roof. The building is terraced, with two storeys and an attic, and a single-storey wing was added to the south in the 19th century.

The street facade has four bays. The upper floor has sash windows with glazing bars, each set within a segmental brick arch. The central two bays at first floor level are blank. Below, a double shop front features central half-glazed doors beneath a fanlight. The windows are flanked by pilasters supporting a plain entablature. Brick dentil eaves run along the top of the facade. A dormer window with a segmental head and a casement window with glazing bars is visible in the roof. Axial stacks are located at each end of the building. A two-storey and single-storey extension features 19th-century casement windows, sash windows, and horizontal sliding windows. The left-hand parapet gable incorporates brick tumbling. A flat-topped dormer with a casement window is also present.

Inside, the living room retains 17th-century beams with ogee stops. The roof is a staggered butt purlin construction. The building is included in the list for group value.
