Description

Rookery Farm House and Cart Shed is a farm house built around 1810, constructed of red brick and featuring roofs of smut pantile, red pantile, and slate. The building has an 'L'-shaped plan and stands two storeys high. The south elevation consists of five bays, with entrance doors located in the second and fourth bays, and blank windows above them. There is a kitchen door to the west, which is a six-panelled door with a shouldered architrave and flat cornice. The principal entrance door is on the east side, featuring a four-panelled design with a timber doorcase and a broken pediment supported by consoles. The east elevation has two bays with ground floor windows that reach full storey height. The windows are sashes with glazing bars and segmental gauged brick arches. The roof is hipped to the southeast and has parapet gables on the west and north sides, with timber eaves supported by brackets. At the rear, there is a lean-to with a slate roof over a colourwashed brick extension, which has a mix of sash and casement windows with glazing bars. Attached to the west is a two-storey cart shed and granary with four bays, featuring curved timber lintels that support segmental brick arches. This structure is linked to a high rendered brick wall. The cart shed and wall are included for their group value.
