Description

The Old Vicarage is a house dating from the early 18th century, constructed of red brick and colourwashed brick, featuring thatched and slate roofs. Originally a three-cell house, it was extended to the east in the late 18th century and to the southeast in the late 19th century, resulting in an 'L' shaped plan over two storeys, with part of the building being double pile. The 19th century wing includes attics.

The west facade has three windows and a central six-panel door with a fanlight and glazing bars. This door is framed by a 19th century doorcase that includes panelled reveals, pilasters, and a projecting cornice. The doorcase is flanked by single-light casements. The ground floor features 19th century casements with transoms and glazing bars, while the first floor has two-light casements with glazing bars. The facade has a low brick plinth and a platband at first floor level, along with flat gauged brick arches. The gable walls also have a platband at both first and attic floor levels, with a blocked oculus on the north side. The parapet gables include brick kneelers, tumbling-in, and end stacks.

The later 18th century wing has French casements with flat gauged brick arches on the ground floor and sash windows with glazing bars above, as well as a platband at first floor level and brick dentil eaves. This section has a thatched hipped roof and an axial stack. The 19th century wing features an asymmetric canted bay with a hipped roof, sash windows with flat gauged brick arches, a plinth, and a platband at first floor level. It has a slate roof with a parapet gable and an end stack. There is a lean-to conservatory on the east and south walls, and single-storey buildings attached to the north are not of special interest.
