Description

Greenwood Cottage is a group of three attached estate cottages built in the early 18th century. They are constructed of red brick with glazed headers and feature thatched roofs. The original range consists of 12 storeys and was extended to the west in the late 18th century. A one and a half storey, double pile range was added to the rear in the 20th century.

The eastern end of the cottages has paired entrance doors facing the road, topped with 20th-century gabled porches supported by brackets. There are 19th-century casement windows with glazing bars and segmental brick arches on either side. The roof features two eyebrow dormers with windows that have wrought iron casements. The cottages have a rendered plinth, parapet gables with moulded brick kneelers, and brick tumbling in at the ends, along with end stacks. There is a blocked oculus in the east gable.

The derelict west wing has two windows and a central door, also with a 20th-century gabled porch. This wing features two eyebrow dormers with two-light windows and wrought iron casements, while the eastern window has leaded lights. The cottages have an off-centre axial stack and a parapet gable, with butt purlin roofs. The rear 20th-century wings are not of special interest.
