Description
Nos. 53 and 54 Moorgate is a house that was formerly a pair of cottages, dating from the 17th or 18th century and has been much restored. The building features a combination of brick and timber framing, which is rendered and colourwashed, displaying an incised ashlar pattern. It has a steeply-pitched thatched roof and is arranged over two storeys with an attic, following a rectangular plan.
On the east wall, there is one single light casement window from the 20th century on the ground floor and another on the first floor. The general window arrangement consists of 20th-century 2 and 3-light casements with glazing bars. The west wall has two entrance doors, while the gables feature attic casements. The south gable includes a wide 20th-century glazed screen with glazed doors that also have glazing bars. A central axial stack has been rebuilt above the ridge line.
