Description

Wolsey's Farm House is a house that dates from the 18th century, with earlier and later elements. It is constructed of brick and features pantile and Belgian tile roofs. The central section, which is from the 18th century, has a barn to the left and a mainly 19th-century range to the right that has an earlier core. The central section has four bays and is two stories high, with a brick plinth and a moulded brick platband. The ground floor has 20th-century cross casements under gauged flat arches, while the first floor features soldier arches. The first bay has been partly rebuilt, with a doorway that is now partly blocked and a 20th-century window inserted. There is an off-centre axial stack. The right-hand two-story range has random 19th-century fenestration. The left-hand gable return is from an earlier structure, probably dating to the 16th century. The right-hand gable was constructed after 1945 due to damage from a V2 bomb. The barn to the left of the house is mostly from the 19th century and includes re-used timbers, with some 20th-century walling.

Inside, the right-hand range retains remains of timber-framing and features two 16th-century brick fireplaces, which are rendered, with the ground floor fireplace having been restored. There is a much-damaged brick stair beside the stack. The central part of the house has a roof supported by two rows of butt purlins and some windbraces.
