Description
The Moulton War Memorial Cross is located outside the Church of St Mary in Moulton, which is a Grade I-listed building, positioned just inside the gate at the south-west corner of the churchyard. This memorial features a stone wheel-head cross adorned with interlace decoration carved in low relief on the cross-head. It stands on a two-stage plinth that is square in shape, with a moulded base. The upper stage of the plinth includes a moulded panel on the front, while the base is supported by a two-stepped octagonal base. The plinth displays inscriptions in incised lettering.
The main dedicatory inscription begins on the upper stage of the plinth and continues onto the lower stage, stating: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE OF THE MEN OF MOULTON ST MARY WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918 (NAMES) 'THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE'." Additionally, there is a later dedication for the Second World War, which reads: "ALSO IN MEMORY OF (2 NAMES) WHO FELL IN THE 1939 – 1945 WAR."
