Description

Little Orchard is a former farmhouse dating from the 18th century, with a core that dates back to the 17th century. The building is constructed of brick over a timber frame and has a thatched roof. It features two bays and two storeys, with a continuous 1½ storey outshut at the rear and a 1½ storey 20th-century extension to the south. The 17th-century section has brick gable walls with parapet gables and end stacks, flanked by timber framed walls. Some of the timber framing and roof structure are still visible inside.

The principal facade faces east and includes two windows with a brick plinth and shallow buttresses at the junction of the 18th and 17th-century brickwork ends. There is a central 20th-century door with a gabled porch. The ground floor features 19th-century casement windows with three lights, while the first floor has 20th-century windows. A blocked double reveal window is present in the 17th-century brickwork at the northern end. The building also has moulded brick kneelers at the parapet gables and end stacks, open brick fireplaces with timber bressumers, and stopped and chamfered axial and transverse beams with ogee stops. The roof is supported by butt purlins. The 20th-century wing to the south is not of special interest.
