Description

The Lindens is a house dating from the early 18th century, but it has an earlier core from the early 16th century. It is constructed of red brick with glazed headers and features a red pantile roof. The building has an 'L'-shaped plan with two storeys and consists of two sections, along with a single-storey outshut to the north. Originally, it likely had a lobby entrance typical of the 16th century, which was part timber framed.

The western section has one window, with the entrance door located to the left, opposite the chimney stack. The brickwork of the western section is continuous with that of the eastern section at the plinth level. The entrance features a six-panel part-glazed door with a 20th-century gabled porch. The windows have been replaced with inserted sash windows that include glazing bars. There is a plat-band at the first-floor level, and the western gable has a parapet with brick kneelers and tumbling in.

The central section has two windows, all but one being 20th-century casements. The eastern wing also features 20th-century casements, and its south gable has been partially rebuilt, with 18th-century work indicated by a plat-band at the first-floor level. The eaves and roof pitch of the eastern section are lower than those of the western section. Inside, there is a central axial stack in the eastern section and a western chimney with a fused diagonal shafted type and a corbelled cap. The interior is mainly from the 20th century, featuring an open brick fireplace in the west with a splayed back and an ogee stopped and chamfered bressumer, along with close spaced joists and an axial beam in the kitchen.
