Description

The Kennels is a house dating from the early 18th century, with later additions. It is constructed of brick, partly rendered and whitewashed, and has a thatched roof. The building is two storeys and has attics, arranged in an L-shape with a four-window front. The first floor has two-light casement windows, while the ground floor features three sash windows with glazing bars and architraves. An off-centre doorway is framed by a wooden doorcase with a dentilled frieze and a key-block above, surmounted by a moulded canopy supported on round columns with pronounced entasis, square capitals, and bases. Skewback brick arches are visible over the ground floor openings, and there is evidence of a blocked first-floor window above the doorway. Plain brick pilasters mark the corners of the original three-bay section of the house, with the southernmost bay being a later addition, rendered over. Chimney stacks are situated at the gables of the original house. The south gable has 20th-century casement windows on both the ground and first floors, and an attic light with glazing bars. The north gable is weatherboarded. A 19th-century wing extends to the east side, featuring a canted bay window on its north wall and an axial chimney stack. A one-storey range of outbuildings, with pantiled roofing, is located at the south-east corner.
