Description
The Church of All Saints is a parish church built between 1838 and 1840, designed by John Brown of Norwich. It features knapped flint with red brick dressings and steeply-pitched slate roofs, following a cruciform plan in a free 'Early English' style. The church includes a nave, chancel, and north and south transepts. Tall lancet windows have double-chamfered brick reveals and stuccoed drip-moulds, while the gables display triple stepped-lancets. The bays are divided by staged buttresses that incorporate flint panels. The gables are adorned with set back corner buttresses topped with octagonal rendered brick finials, and there are gabled and foiled niches on the southwest and northwest buttresses. The gables are parapeted and coped, and a bellcote is positioned over the west gable. A brick eaves parapet features brick modillions. The west porch has a pointed arched doorway with a hood mould and a parapeted gable topped with a stone finial. Small side lancets are present, and there is a lean-to vestry at the northeast angle. Inside, the church has king post roofs with queen struts and arch braces that extend to wall posts, along with timber ribs supporting a central boss at the crossing. The interior also includes plain contemporary benches and fittings.
