Description
122 Green Lane is a house dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century, which was extended in the 19th century and restored in the late 20th century. It features a rendered timber frame on a brick plinth and has a clay pantile roof with gabled ends. The house has brick axial stacks and a two-room plan, with the left room heated from a central axial stack, while the right room was possibly originally unheated. There is a rear outshut that was likely built in the 19th century. The house is one storey with an attic and has a symmetrical two-window south front. On either side, there are 20th-century glazed doors with two-light casements, and there are 20th-century three-light casements in the raking attic dormers. At the rear, the main roof extends down as a catslide over the outshut, which features 20th-century casements and a glazed door.
Inside, much of the original carpentry is visible, including wall posts with moulded bracket heads that support a chamfered cross beam with hollow step stops. The left room has a brick fireplace with a low, slightly cambered unchamfered timber lintel, and there is exposed wall framing with tension braces. In the attic, the wall framing, wall-plates, and large common rafters are exposed, although the apex of the roof is ceiled.
