Description
This is a pair of cottages located on Green Lane in Quidenham, likely originally a single house dating from the early 17th century, with later extensions probably added in the 19th century. The cottages are timber-framed and rendered, with a steeply pitched clay pantile roof featuring gabled ends, wide verges, and eaves. A brick axial stack provides heating for each of the two rooms. An outshut was likely added to the rear in the 19th century.
The two-storey and attic cottages exhibit a symmetrical two-window frontage on their south side. The windows are small, circa early 19th century metal casements; the ground floor windows are three-light and the first floor windows are two-light. Number 124, on the left, has replacement plastic casements. Glazed doors are positioned to the left and right of the front facade. A small 19th-century two-light casement is located on the first floor, and in the gable ends of the roof. Number 124's gable end features replacement plastic casements. The rear of the main roof slopes down as a catslide over the outshut, and includes casements and glazed doors.
Internally, exposed wall framing is visible. Number 124 contains a chamfered axial beam with run-out stops, exposed joists, and a large brick fireplace with a stopped chamfer timber lintel. Number 125, to the right, possesses a chamfered cross-beam with run-out stops, broad joists, and a large brick fireplace with a chamfered timber lintel.
