Description

This is a mid-19th century terrace of houses on Castle Street, Thetford. The buildings are constructed of cut flint with gault brick dressings, and have roofs covered in black-glazed pantiles and slate. The terrace comprises ten houses, generally one window bay wide, and set over two storeys. All windows are set within segmental arches. A carriage arch is located to the left of number 71. Original doors have been replaced in the 20th century. The window openings feature a mix of sash windows with varying glazing bar patterns or later 20th century top-hung casements. Numbers 79 to 83 retain their original 6/6 sashes, while numbers 85 and 87 feature replica sashes. Number 79 has a doorway topped with a pediment, and numbers 81 and 83 share three bays between them, each house featuring an entrance door beneath a blind tympanum, separated by a passageway door. The terrace has gabled roofs with gault brick stacks marking the divisions between the properties. The interior of the buildings has not been inspected.
