Description

The Nunnery is a house dating from the early 18th century and later. It is constructed of brick, gault brick, and flint, with brick dressings, and features pantile and slate roofs. A continuous outshut has been added to the rear of the main block, which is connected to a 19th-century self-contained cottage.

The main block is one and a half storeys tall, with a brick facade that includes decorative vertical bands of black headers. The centre bay is slightly advanced and features a later gault brick porch with a four-centred arch and a two-leaf door with cover strips. To the left, there is a 19th-century rectangular bay with a chamfered mullion three-light window and a hipped roof. A greenhouse projects from the right-hand bay. The upper floor has three 19th-century two-light chamfered mullion windows and a circular window, which is a characteristic feature of Hilborough estate cottages. The building has a sawtooth cornice and a south gable-end made of brick and flint, which includes a canted gault brick bay and a two-light chamfered mullion window. There is a central axial stack with four rebuilt angled shafts.

The rear cottage is built of flint with brick dressings and is also one and a half storeys high. It has a boarded door with cover strips, one two-light casement window, and a reduced window above. An external gable-end stack features two angled shafts. The property is part of the Hilborough Hall Estate.
