Description

Hilborough Hall is a house built in 1779 and later. It is constructed of gault brick with some stone dressings and has slate roofs. The main block is nearly square in shape, with lower extensions to the sides and rear. The building has three storeys and a cellar. The entrance facade features five bays of sash windows with glazing bars set beneath skewback arches, with the top storey windows being smaller. The three central bays are slightly advanced and topped with a pediment. The ground floor has rusticated quoins and stone platbands. The front doorway is semicircular-headed with a rusticated surround and a fanlight, and it has a two-leaf panelled door flanked by narrow sash windows. Above, there are balustraded windows in the style of Holkham, and a straight hood mould above the wider central window. The cornices are decorated with prominent dentils.

The east facade has three bays, with a later rectangular bay added to the centre and a balustraded window on the first floor. The rear facade consists of four bays, with the central two bays slightly advanced and replacement sash windows without glazing bars on the ground floor. The first floor features balustraded windows, and the building has hipped roofs. There is a single-storey 20th-century extension to the rear that is in a sympathetic style, along with two-storeyed service buildings to the west. Inside, the hall boasts fine Adam plasterwork and fireplaces.
