Description
The Church of St Mary is a parish church that dates from the medieval period and later. It is constructed of flint with ashlar and some brick dressings, topped with a plaintile roof. The church features an aisleless nave, a vestry to the north, and a chancel that is aligned with the nave. The west wall has a 2-light window with cusped Y-tracery and a 19th-century bell-cote. The south wall includes a wave-moulded doorway, four restored late-medieval 2-light windows with flat heads, and a hollow chamfered priest's doorway. The north wall has one 2-light window with a flat head leading to the chancel, while the east window is a 3-light cusped Y-traceried design.
Inside, there is a wave-moulded chancel arch supported by polygonal responds, a simple arched piscina in the chancel, and a surviving rood stair on the south side of the nave. The church also features a 17th-century polygonal pulpit with a fluted frieze, fine late-medieval benches with traceried backs and carved poppy heads, and a simple 14th-century octagonal font.
