Description

This is a range of four almshouses located on the south side of High Street in Watton. They were built in 1831 and restored in 1975. The construction is rendered clay lump set on a flint plinth, with a pantiled roof. The building is one storey high and has a symmetrical facade. At each end of the range is an arched doorway, with two further arched doorways in the centre. Between the doorways are two arched Gothic windows featuring intersecting Y tracery. A date stone marked “E.S. 1831” (Edward Stephens) is positioned centrally. The roof is hipped, with two chimney stacks. Modern casement windows are located at the returns, and a flat-topped extension has been added to the rear.
