Description

Orwell House is a house dating from circa 1740, with a front block added in the 1820s. It is constructed of red brick with a pantiled roof. The front facade is two storeys and five windows wide, featuring a central six-panelled door with a five-vaned fanlight. The door is set within a doorcase featuring pilasters, a block entablature, and an open pediment, with panelled reveals and a soffit. The windows are six-over-six unhorned sash windows with gauged skewback arches, and late 20th-century secondary external glazing. A platband runs along the first floor, and a dentil eaves cornice tops the front. The gabled roof has internal gable-end stacks to the north and south, with tumbling in the gable heads. There is a rear wing of two storeys and a dormer attic. The interior was not inspected.
