Description

This is a house dating from around 1835, located in Earls’ Street, Thetford. It is constructed from a mix of coursed clunch, flint, and gault brick, with a slate roof. The house is two storeys high and arranged in three bays. A prominent feature is a four-centred carriage arch on the right-hand side, constructed with particularly fine gauged brickwork. Two timber doors are present. The central entrance has a 20th-century six-panelled door, set within panelled reveals, and is topped with a plain fanlight. There is one unhorned six-over-six sash window to the left, and three similar windows to the first floor, all featuring gauged skewback arches. The eaves are finished with an upright modillion cornice. The roof is gabled, with internal gable-end stacks. The north-west gable wall is built of coursed clunch blocks. The rear elevation includes three first-floor sash windows; the window above the carriage arch was originally a hayloft door. To the north-east are former stable outbuildings, characterised by one-storey lean-to roofs and segmental openings.

Inside, a stick baluster staircase and six-panelled doors are noteworthy.
