Description
The Thatched Cottage is an early 16th-century open hall house that has been converted into two cottages. It features a timber frame with rendered lath and plaster infill set on a brick plinth, topped with a thatched roof. The building stands at 2 to 2½ storeys high, with a door located to the right of the center and casement windows on both sides. The east cottage has 20th-century casements, while the west cottage includes an eyebrow dormer. The roof is gabled with a ridge stack. The east cottage also has a single-storey 19th-century pantiled extension and a 20th-century cross wing at the rear. Inside, the timber frame remains intact, with ceiling beams that are chamfered with tongue and collar end stops. The original hall was located to the east and was floored in the 17th century, with one tie beam still visible in the upper bedroom. The roof was renewed in the early 19th century.
