Description
The Blue Lion Public House is a public house located in North Pickenham. It dates from the late 17th century, with an 18th-century rear wing and 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of brick, which is rendered or painted, and features a pantile roof with brick end stacks. It has a T-plan layout, standing two storeys high with attics. The façade includes a two-window range of 20th-century windows set in original openings, along with two small dormers. A central 20th-century porch leads to the entrance door. To the right, there is a single-storey wing made of brick and flint, also with a pantile roof and two stacks.
Inside, the ground floor has been opened up but still retains spine beams, with two boxed beams and one featuring a deep chamfer and curved stop. The first floor preserves chamfered spine beams, a fireplace hood, and plank doors. In the attic, part of the roof is visible, ceiled at collar level, with principals that include windbraces to purlins and coupled rafters.
