Description

The Old Nag's Head is a farmhouse dating from the early 16th century, with flooring, extensions, and chimneys added in the 17th century. It features a rendered timber frame, partially replaced with flint and brick, and has colourwashed brick gable ends and a stack bay. The building has a thatched roof, with the eastern half originally being an open hall that includes a through passage. A returned brick gable end with a stack was added to the west, along with a massive central axial stack in the western half. There is a continuous outshut at the rear, and the structure stands two storeys high with attics. The fenestration is irregular, featuring Victorian and modern two-light casement windows with glazing bars, and a modern gabled dormer window on the western side. Moulded brick corbels are present on the former parapet gable, and some studs are visible on the rear above the continuous outshut. The gable ends and chimney shafts were rebuilt in the 20th century.

Inside, the timber frame is visible in the eastern half, showcasing close studding and an arch-braced clasped purlin roof with window bracing. A service partition with a solar remains, along with moulded stone jambs to the first-floor fireplace that show traces of original paint. There is one surviving doorway to the through passage with a four-centred head, and the western half also has a clasped purlin roof. The added first-floor doorway features ogee and nicked chamfer stops.
