Description
Erneford House is a house dating from around 1700, constructed of colourwashed brick and topped with pantile roofs. It features a lobby entrance type plan and has a later addition that forms an L shape. The house is two storeys high with an attic and has a nearly symmetrical facade with seven bays, although two bays are obscured by the later addition. The ground floor mainly retains its original 2-light mullion and transom windows, which are set beneath skew-back arches. There is a late 19th-century part-glazed door located opposite the stack. The exterior includes a plain platband and a brick dentil cornice, with an off-centre axial stack and moulded brick cross finials at both gable peaks. An 18th-century added block is present but is not of special interest. Inside, there is a winding stair located on the entrance side of the stack, principal beams that feature stepped chamfer stops, and a fine roof structure with collars, staggered butt purlins, and windbracing.
