Description
This pair of cottages, built around 1830 by WJ Donthorn, is currently unoccupied and partly used as an animal shelter. Constructed from red brick on a flint and brick plinth, the cottages feature a pantile roof and a central brick ridge stack. They are designed in a simple Tudor style, characterized by ornamental hood moulds with shield stops. The cottages are single storey with an attic and include a central brick porch with a simple pediment, which has a pair of blocked doors. On either side of the porch, there is a 3-light casement window. At each end, there is a central doorway (the left side doorway is blocked) with a single-light window on either side and two 2-light windows above, partially set into the gable. The gable features a brick dentilled cornice at the eaves line and roof line. The interior retains a pair of winder stairs. These cottages have undergone slight alterations and were designed around the same time that Donthorn built Pickenham Hall in 1829 and other buildings on the estate.
